On Saturday the 6th of August 2016 3-year-old George Burgess from Oakham and many of his friends, thanks to encouragement from his Mum Wendy, took to their vehicles of choice (scooter or bike) and travelled two and a half kilometres across the Rutland Water Dam and back to the starting point at Sykes Lane.
The purpose was to raise money for the The Georgie B Fund, which has been set-up for the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group CCLG. The choice of charity was inspired by the fact that George was diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumour (a childhood kidney cancer) in August 2015 when aged only two and a half
The Georgie B Fund was a way for the Burgess family to contribute to the good work they had benefited from during George’s 8-month ordeal.
When the management team at Integra Associates heard about these 30+ toddlers taking part to support George they were impressed and inspired to help. As a result, the decision was made to match proceeds raised in the run-up to the event. It worked, by the time the event started, the page was showing just short of £800.
We are pleased to announce that all the toddlers managed to make it over the finishing line, even if a couple who started off cycling or scooting ended up walking. And yes, there were some tears.
As of the 11th of August, the donation site was showing £2,602.96, including Integra’s contribution: We expect the amount to rise further over the next couple of days as many pledges are yet to be collected.
